A wellness oasis in the Bolognese Apennines

CHURCH OF S. MARIA ASSUNTA, placed near the river Reno, is one of the most important and beautiful masterpieces of contemporary art. Visually striking, it is the only work in Italy of the great architect Alvar Aalto. Together with the Village Scola and Rocchetta Mattei (in danger for the state of total abandonment) is a must for many students of architecture who can see near our inn a unique experience; it is object of study and interest.
From Riola di Vergato, leaved the beautiful Borgo la Scola and surpassed the small town of Campolo, you go up to Montovolo Sanctuary, first Sanctuary of the Archdiocese of Bologna dedicated to St. Mary of Consolation, a beautiful Romanic building dating from the twelfth century. Inside there is a beautiful and precious statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary (XV-XVI century), venerated as the image of Our Lady of Montovolo, and a crypt with three apses which is what remains of the oldest church, perhaps the most important. Outside, a little higher up there is to admire the delightful Oratory of St. Catherine, a small building in "opus quadratum", with the presence inside of a sarcophagus in boulder and a fifteenth-century fresco cycle with the history of St. Catherine. Going up a few meters you can admire the beautiful view of the Reno valley.
In the province of Modena, between the valleys of the Reno and the Panaro is the country that has developed at the foot of the thirteenth-century fortress, of which today you can see the double walls, with the pointed arch doorway, the embattled tower, a characteristic landscape of Montese. Place of pleasant resort offers beautiful scenery, hiking through the many walking trails, lush forest paths between streams of clear water.
Pitigliano, ROCCA Pitigliana today, is one of the many smaller towns in the mountains of Bologna that had a lush life in the Middle Ages. The village church, dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel, is mentioned for the first time in 1235.
Located at 680 meters in a panoramic position in the valley of the Silla creek, Gaggio Montano is rich in evidence of its centuries-old past. Arriving in Gaggio you will notice the large block ophiolitic above the town giving it a look of its own. And it is around the Sasso that is developed the characteristic old center with its new architectural journey from evocative alleys. In the second half of the 500 was built on its summit a small building with clock and bell, which was replaced in 1951 with the current Memorial Lighthouse on the Mount, from the panoramic terrace where you can enjoy a splendid view.
In the town of Gaggio Montano, from the top of the ridge overlooking the valley of the river flowing into the Aneva Marano. Located at 820 meters, has about 400 inhabitants. In the twelfth century there was a castle tower with family Barbetti. The present parish church, dedicated to Saint Lucia and of antique origin has been completely rebuilt to a design by G. Marchetti. Next, in recent years, on the spot where it is believed to be some sort ancient tower, was built a tower observatory by the characteristic architectural features that make it worthy of attention. To the south of the town, of great interest because of its landscape and natural, is the location Sassane where there is an ancient shrine dedicated to Mary Magdalen placed on the top of an impressive steep.
Winter sports for all and at all levels, warm hospitality and pleasant moments of leisure, folklore and relaxation. is what gives the Corno alle Scale, the renowned ski resort Bologna choice in recent years by the world champion Alberto Tomba as the venue for his workouts. A loving relationship of long duration (let's not forget that it was up here that the national Alberton began his career in the seventies), beautifully sealed with the naming of two tracks to the great champion of Bologna.
Our property is about 35 minutes from the ski lifts.

Il Mio Rifugio is also close (about 30 minutes) to Suviana Lake, an artificial lake located in the Apennines of Bologna, formed as a result of the construction of a 91.5-meter-high dam, begun in 1928 and completed in 1935 (the date in Roman numerals affixed to the front of the dam).

Around the lake border several villages: Suviana, Badi, Bargi and Stagno. It is the largest lake in the province of Bologna and one of the largest in Emilia-Romagna.

The lake, which is included in the territory of the "Regional park of Suviana e Brasimone lakes", is good for bathing and water sports (sailing, windsurfing, etc..). Is indeed equipped with a variety of dining and tourist facilities and services that makes it a holiday resort in the summer season.
